The weeks just before the first frosts are critical in getting the maximum harvest from the garden before the crop is lost. Tomatoes, for example, must be pushed to ripen as much fruit as quickly as possible. Last year, the hand of death (frost) came early to my house and slashed my crop in half. Tears please!
